Important Upcoming Dates

March 17, 2026 General Primary Election

Visit the Cook County Elections Calendar for more important dates.

Find the best way to register for you.

In-person:

  • The library has Deputy registrars located at the Adult Services desk that can help you register.
  • Deputy registrars can register people to vote until the registration deadline — 27 days before an election. 
  • Visit your local Cook County election office or designated registration site.
  • Bring photo ID or a document with your name and address.
  • Early Voting allows you to register and vote in person until the Monday before an election at a designated voting location.
  • You can register the day of an election in person at your home precinct or or at one of the Election Day Vote Centers.

Online:

  • Register online through the Illinois State Board of Elections website up to 16 days prior to the election. *Requires an Illinois Driver's License or State ID

By Mail:

  • Must be delivered 28 days prior to the election.

What's on your ballot:

Follow the link and click "What is on my upcoming ballot" to the left. Enter your address and click submit. This will give you the ballot and include any referendum items at the bottom.

Polls are open starting at 6am on election day and close at 7pm. Look up your local polling place to see where you vote. You can bring printouts, sample ballots, smart phones, etc. with you, but no photos are allowed of your ballot.
