Adult Services Assistant
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, occasional evenings and weekends may be required
Pay $20.75 - $21.25/hr.
The Prospect Heights Public Library District is looking for a collaborative and dedicated Adult Services Assistant to join our team! This position is ideal for someone with excellent customer service skills who will be dedicated to serving the residents of Prospect Heights and its neighboring communities.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Managing the annual VITA income tax preparation program
- Assisting library patrons with finding reading materials, troubleshooting minor computer issues, and scheduling meeting rooms
- Connecting patrons to local social services
- Serving as a certified U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent
- Familiarizing patrons with print and non-print reference tools, digital reading platforms, and maker technology
- Main point of contact for local, state and federal agencies
The ideal candidate will be:
- Familiar with Prospect Heights and surrounding communities of Wheeling, Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights
- Familiar with the principles and practices of public libraries
- Knowledgeable of popular authors and titles
- A positive team player
- Skilled at providing top-notch customer service
- Able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- A creative problem solver
- Confident with using technology
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements specified by the U.S. Department of State to perform as a Passport Acceptance Agent:
- 18 years of age or older
- U.S. citizen or a U.S. non-citizen national
- Does not have a record of either: (i) A Federal or State felony conviction; or (ii) A misdemeanor conviction for crimes involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, including by not limited to embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offenses, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust.
Additional Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
- Library Technical Assistant (LTA) or equivalent combination of education and experience a plus
- Bilingual in Spanish or other language(s) a plus
